Killer in the Rain is a collection of eight short stories by Raymond Chandler, a hard-boiled detective fiction author. The stories were originally published in pulp magazines between 1935 and 1941. The title story is about a private investigator (PI) who is asked to look after the daughter of a rich client. The daughter has been blackmailed and her father is afraid she's caught up in something sinister.
The PI is unnamed throughout the story, but he talks, acts, and reacts like Philip Marlowe. The PI takes the case and tails Steiner from his business to his home during a rain storm. Carmen soon arrives, and shots are fired. The PI bursts into the home and finds Carmen drugged, dressed for porno pix, and Steiner dead.
The title story was later included in The Big Sleep.
